Sermon Series

In
the previous series we considered the nature of Spiritual Strongholds.
In ancient times walled cities were fortified strongholds in which
harmful forces could hold out and from which painful and destructive
attacks could be launched. Similarly, Spiritual Strongholds are well
fortified places in our lives where Satan has been deeply entrenched
and where he still holds a degree of power over us. Like breaching the
wall of a fortified city, demolishing Spiritual Strongholds can
involve a long and laborious siege. For the next few weeks we will
look more deeply at the Kingdom principles that are foundational to
our victory. This series directly speaks to the questions: “Ok, I know
I have some strongholds in my life, but what do I do about it? How do
I gain victory?” |

In
the Old Testament the congregation of believers would sometimes
be summoned to a sacred gathering by the sound of the shofar
(ram’s horn). Assembled together, they would confess, repent and
reaffirm their commitment to live for the Lord. We end our
series on spiritual strongholds with a similar time of
individual and corporate confession, repentance and
recommitment. |

Beatitudes as a guide to Spiritual Victory |

The first words officially uttered by Jesus at the
beginning of his teaching ministry are the Beatitudes. These are
more than pretty platitudes or pious hopes; rather, they are
declarations of the foundational principles by which we are called
to live in the spiritual kingdom into which each of us is born by
faith in Jesus Christ. |
